Wanted Man Wines News

a hot Aussie summer ahead

10 December 2012

Exciting times at Wanted Man. We’re just about to enter the 100 day period prior to harvest. We’ve enjoyed the springtime budburst and flowering, plenty of reproductive business, inflorescence, very frisky and all that.

The grape development will provide for particularly interesting times this year because we’re expecting some seriously hot weather in Heathcote this summer. We even had a couple of late spring days just approaching 40C. Phew!

Joining the marsanne, viognier and shiraz grapes this year is our first parcel of roussanne grapes. Then some mataro in 2014. These give our winemakers Matt Harrop and Simon Osicka loads of scope for some really nice innovative winemaking, maybe some interesting blends who knows?

As you know our history involves production of our single vineyard wines. We’ve also introduced a regional shiraz with shiraz grapes from different pockets of Heathcote in 2010 and 2011. Each year we have a different artist present their version of the Wanted Man – so far we’ve had the 2010 Mug Shot followed by the 2011 Reward regional shiraz. Fun.

We’ll keep you posted during the next 100 days. Keep well and keep cool!
